Financial management skills are critical for any manager, but the role can often be challenging for those with no previous training. The Financial Management Certificate is designed to provide participants with greater confidence in understanding their business/organization’s financial picture and using that information to make sound decisions.
The following workshops will be delivered:
- Introduction to Financial Management
- Cost and Managerial Accounting and Budgeting
- Financial Projections and Financial Modeling Techniques
- Financing and Raising Capital
- Fiscal Controls and Fraud Prevention
- Financial Decision Making
Participants completing all six days of training, will receive a certificate of completion from the Office of Skills Development and Learning and UPEI.

Gerry Lanigan, CPA, CA, CBVGerry is an assurance and financial advisory services Senior Manager at BDO Canada LLP with over 14 years experience in public practice, having lead a number of complex and sensitive engagements during his career. Gerry’s portfolio of clients have included a publically – owned pharmaceutical company, a large educational institution, Not-for-Profit and government organizations as well as a number small to medium sized for-profit companies. Over his career, Gerry has been engaged to provide a number of forensic and special purpose audits for suspected financial fraud and misappropriation cases in Atlantic Canada.
In addition to his assurance practice, Gerry is part of the firm’s Financial Advisory Services Team, where he specializes in providing business valuation services related to mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, ownership restructuring, shareholder disputes, succession/estate planning and litigation support
Gerry is a graduate of the University of Prince Edward Island, having obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 2005 and was admitted to membership as a Chartered Business Valuator in 2016. In his volunteer and community service, Gerry has served as both Treasurer and Chair of Special Olympics PEI, coached minor hockey in Pownal and has spoke on several occasions to other non-profit groups concerning best governance practices.
