Mark Lever, President and CEO of SaltWire Network recently announced the appointment of former CEO of Tourism PEI, David MacKenzie, as the new Regional President, PEI, representing both The Guardian and the Journal Pioneer.
“When we announced the creation of the SaltWire Network, the most important commitment we made was to reinstate local, on-the-ground leadership that would return the day-to-day management of the publications back to the community. For the past several months, we’ve been working to achieve this in a variety of ways, including through our efforts to hire regional presidents for each of our main regions,” Lever said.
“Today, I’m pleased to announce the first of these regional presidents. In PEI, we put the call out for someone who is a true Islander, who believes in the power of the place and its potential for the future. David MacKenzie answered that call.”
A lifelong Islander, MacKenzie has held many prominent Island positions. In addition to his work with Tourism PEI, he is the former Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture, the past CEO of Confederation Centre of the Arts and between 1995 and 2001 was the Executive Director of Capital Commission of PEI.
MacKenzie’s long track record of being a champion for the Island will continue as he assumes the role of Regional President representing two more Island institutions: The Guardian and the Journal Pioneer.
MacKenzie begins his new role November 1, 2017.
