Q&A with Anne-Marie Smith, MRSB Group

1. What’s your favourite hidden gem on PEI?

City Cinema, for a unique smaller scale movie experience hideaway downtown Charlottetown.

 

2. How have you seen the Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce grow and evolve during your 25+ years as a member? 

One area that stands out is the addition of PEI Connectors as an extension of their support.   Recognizing the influence and importance of immigrant entrepreneurs and connecting them with businesses in the community.

 

3. If you could only eat one PEI dish for the rest of your life, what would it be? 

Seafood Bubbly Bake – has all the seafood goodies, and cheese!

 

4. What have you appreciated the most about being a Chamber member over the years?

The reassurance of knowing the Chamber is in the corner of Island Businesses, being our voice and representing us in important, timely, current matters at hand.

 

5. Can you share a memorable PEI moment from your time running your business here?

Getting to know so many wonderful business owners and becoming close friends with these clients

 

6. How do you think the Chamber has influenced local businesses and the community during your membership?

Primarily by keeping us informed of changes that could affect our businesses, being our voice through survey responses, and making us feel part of a larger more powerful force as a group and community overall.

 

7. What’s one thing about PEI you think people often overlook or don’t appreciate enough?

Our close access to nature and water.   Tourists travel many miles to experience for a few short days, what Islanders have the opportunity to experience year-round.

 

8. Looking back, what major changes in the business climate on PEI stand out to you?

Use of technologies in businesses to improve efficiency and operations

 

9. What’s your go-to way to relax and enjoy the Island’s natural beauty?

Kayaking on a quiet inland PEI waterway in the summer, and hiking or snowshoeing an island trail in the other seasons.

 

10. What advice would you give to newer businesses on PEI, based on the changes and growth you’ve witnessed?

Seems obvious, join your local chamber to support and be supported by other Island businesses!
