CENTURY 21 Canada has named CENTURY 21 Colonial Realty in Charlottetown as their Franchise of the Year, honouring the brokerage among their roster of franchisees from coast to coast.
C21 Canada’s Franchise of the Year award chooses one franchise in their system that has not only excelled in business but also cultivated deep ties in the local community and demonstrated a commitment to the brand’s value of upholding the ‘Gold Standard’ level of service to clients.
“This is quite an honour,” said Joel upon receiving the award. “C21 Canada has been an amazing brand to be a part of. It really does feel like a family, there are people in this organization that I’ve known for years and I consider to be my best friends, who have mentored me and helped me through hard times. This franchise, this system, works. If you embrace the tools and trust the process, you will succeed.”
Joel has been in the industry since 1991 and is a second-generation C21 broker, having taken over the operations of the brokerage in 2007 from his father, John. The Franchise of the Year title helps mark a big milestone for the brokerage as C21 Colonial is celebrating 50 years of operation this year.
“C21 Canada is all about family, so it means a lot to us that we were able to honour a legacy owner who has become like family to so many network members across the country,” says Todd Shyiak, Executive Vice President of CENTURY 21 Canada.

CENTURY 21 Colonial Realty has been in operation since 1976, and in 2025 earned CENTURION® status (the brand’s highest award for top-performing offices). The announcement was made at the OneC21 conference in Vancouver earlier this month, the biggest annual gathering of the brand’s network.
