Chamber supporting members’ reopening efforts during COVID-19 recovery

May 11, 2020 | Member & Partner News

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce is working with its membership and the local business community as a whole, to support them in reopening their businesses and serving the community as quickly and safely as possible.

“We are hearing from many members who want to open their doors as quickly and efficiently as possible, but do so in a way that ensures the safety of their employees, customers and clients,” said Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce Interim CEO, Gerard Adams. “The Chamber is taking a number of actions to support our members during this time.”

As part of its efforts, the Chamber is supporting industry associations, many who are members of the organization, by reaching out to understand their challenges, share resources and communicate their concerns to government and public health officials. For those businesses not represented by an association, the Chamber is coordinating meetings between like-businesses to facilitate planning and collaboration with public health officials.

“The only way we will get through this successfully is if we work collaboratively and support one another,” said Adams. “Our goal is to facilitate this cooperation and would encourage any member that would like to part of this initiative to reach out to us directly.”

The Chamber will also host a general webinar about developing and understanding business operational plans necessary for reopening with Ryan Neale, Manager, Environmental Health, Chief Public Health Office, and Danny Miller, Director, Occupational Health & Safety this Wednesday, May 13 at 10:30 AM. The registration link can be found here or on the Chamber’s website and Facebook page.

Moving forward, the Chamber continues to support its members by advocating for improvements to government programs that will assist members through this transition. One action the Chamber most recently called for is that government provide financial assistance to adapt business spaces to meet public health guidelines. On Thursday, May 7, the provincial government announced this program.

“Our team is in constant communication with government officials and decision-makers, relaying members’ concerns and advocating for solutions that will allow our business community to reopen as soon as safely possible,” said Adams. “All our members are eager to work together to safely jump-start our Island economy.”
