The Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce has called on the City of Charlottetown not to increase taxes in its budget.

The chamber recently presented the city with a pre-budget submission that emphasized the importance of creating an environment where business thrives. If business does not thrive, the tax base will wither and so will the city’s ability to sustain programs and essential infrastructure.

Chamber members have underlined the negative impact tax hikes would have on businesses. The chamber’s submission encourages the city to explore all options to control spending instead.

The chamber also stressed the importance of giving top priority to business development and providing multi-year plans for capital projects and infrastructure.
