Congratulations extended to new mayors and councils in greater Charlottetown area

The Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce extends congratulations to the successful mayoral and council candidates in the greater Charlottetown area. Last night’s municipal results elected Philip Brown as Mayor in Charlottetown, Steve Ogden as Mayor of Stratford and Minerva McCourt as Mayor of Cornwall.

“The Chamber works with municipal governments to help create and advocate for the right conditions for businesses to succeed,” said Chamber CEO, Penny Walsh-McGuire. “It’s important that our new municipal governments have a clear understanding of the needs of the business community and we look forward to discussing these priorities with the new mayors and councils in the very near future.”

Throughout the municipal election campaign, the Chamber published a special “Cornwall, Charlottetown, Stratford Votes” edition of the Voice of Businesses magazinehosted the City of Charlottetown Mayoral Candidates Business Debate, and surveyed members on key election issues and released highlights of the results publicly. Survey results reinforced that Chamber members are calling for greater access to information and transparency and a focus on development from their municipal government.

The Chamber also wishes to extend congratulations to all municipal candidates for a hard-fought and respectful election campaign.

“It takes a great deal of courage to run for public office,” said Walsh-McGuire. “While policies and approaches may have differed throughout the campaign, one thing we noted as the same between all candidates was a shared passion for their community and a desire to make it an even better place to live, work and play.”
