Yesterday evening, the implementation of U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods was paused for at least 30 days after high-level discussions.

While this provides a temporary relief, the situation remains highly unpredictable, and we must be prepared for any outcome.

The advocacy efforts of our Chamber continue. We will continue the groundwork for a province-wide buy local campaign and keep engaging with government, industry stakeholders, chambers across the country, and our U.S. counterparts to navigate challenges ahead.

With uncertainty still looming, businesses should continue to explore diversifying partnerships and customer base, and explore new markets outside of the United States. Our members have access to the Atlantic Chamber’s Market Entry Development Program for businesses looking to diversify into the EU or Indo-Pacific markets.

We also want to reinforce the importance of supporting Canadian and Island businesses and products. Whether through procurement or everyday purchases, investing in our Island’s and country’s economy will help mitigate potential disruptions.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s notice, our Chamber will continue to advocate for a competitive and stable economic environment where businesses can thrive, no matter what challenges are – both internally and externally – are presented.

Sincerely,

Bianca McGregor

CEO, GCACC
