Charlottetown, PE (Jan. 24, 2024) – Wednesday night was an evening of celebration for the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce as members of the Island business community gathered at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Prince Edward for the 2024 President’s Excellence Awards Gala.

Sponsored by Atlantic Lottery, the Awards Gala honoured finalists and winners in nine categories.

The first award of the evening, the Emerging Business Excellence Award was presented to Mezza Lebanese Kitchen. Sponsored by the City of Charlottetown, this award is given to a for-profit business that has demonstrated remarkable growth, innovation, and leadership in its industry sector during the first years of operation. Spot On Dog Training and Kitbag Theatre were also finalists in this category.

The Excellence in Small Business Award, sponsored by McInnes Cooper, was awarded to New Glasgow Lobster Suppers. This award is given to a for-profit business that has been operating for ten years or more, with fewer than 15 full-time employees, that has demonstrated excellence in all areas of operations, embodies entrepreneurial spirit, and has a strong track record of community involvement and support. Other finalists in the category included Bernadette’s Flowers and Northern Watters Knitwear.

In recognition of a business that has been operating for ten years or more, while demonstrating excellence in all areas of business with more than 15 full-time employees, the Excellence in Business Award, sponsored by Scotiabank, was given to Charlottetown Metal Products. Other finalists included Red Shores Charlottetown and Green Diamond Equipment (formerly Reddin).

The Not-for-Profit Excellence Award, sponsored by iWave, was awarded to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation. This award recognizes the accomplishments of a not-for-profit organization that contributes to the economic, social, and/or cultural well-being of the Greater Charlottetown Area. Other finalists included the PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being, PEI School Food Program Inc., and Blooming House Women’s Shelter.

Coast to Coast Beauty was the recipient of the Excellence in Customer Service Award, co-sponsored by BDO Canada and Cox & Palmer, for demonstrating a strong commitment to outstanding customer service, customer loyalty, and community involvement. JC’s Tiki Bar and The Birches Cottages Inc. were also finalists in this category.

The recipient of the Innovation Excellence Award, sponsored by BIOVECTRA, was Island Abbey Food Science Ltd. This award is presented to a business that has demonstrated outstanding performance and achievement through innovative and creative approaches, resulting in new or improved programs, products, services, or initiatives. The other finalists in this category were Somru BioScience Inc. and Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.

The Workplace Excellence Award was awarded to A.M. Financial Matters Inc. Sponsored by RBC, this award recognizes an organization that provides employees with a positive, healthy, and productive workplace through innovative human resource practices. Other finalists included m5 Marketing Communications and Camp Gencheff.

By public vote, the People’s Choice for Community Impact Award, sponsored by MRSB Group, went to Big Brothers Big Sisters of PEI. This award recognizes a local businesses or organization that gives back to their community in a meaningful way. Other finalists were Habitat for Humanity PEI and Canadian Blood Services.

The 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Provincial Credit Union, was presented to COWS for their commitment to quality and community over the last 40 years. This award is granted to an individual or business that has achieved and maintained an exceptional level of success and entrepreneurial spirit for at least 15 years.  

The President’s Excellence Awards are held annually by the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber to honour and celebrate excellence within the local business community.
