Two member information sessions were held in response to the Chamber’s call for increased access to government programs to hire new immigrants.
A recent survey found while 71 per cent of Chamber members agree immigration can help address labour shortages, only 27 per cent felt they have access to adequate government programs to hire newcomers.
The provincial Office of Immigration promptly responded to these findings by working with the Chamber to host the sessions. The presentations outlined what programs are available for employers to hire new immigrants and recruit internationally, the length of time to process applications and the costs associated with applying.
The Office of Immigration agreed to host further sessions for members who are interested in the topic.
