We’re celebrating The Cork & Cast and their 1 year of membership with the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce!

Here’s what Rachel Sauvé, Executive Chef and Co-Owner of The Cork & Cast, had to say about her and her husband, Doug Mckinney (Co-Owner), and their experience with the GCACC:

“We joined the Chamber to feel more connected to the local business community and to learn from others who were facing similar challenges. Over the past year, the Chamber has helped our restaurant grow by giving us access to local networking events, promotional opportunities, and helpful business resources. Being part of the Chamber has  made our business feel more visible and supported.”

Q&A with Rachel Sauvé

  1. What drew you to join the Chamber, and how has it impacted your business over the past year?

We joined the Chamber to feel more connected to the local business community and to learn from others who were facing similar challenges. Over the past year, the Chamber has helped our restaurant grow by giving us access to local networking events, promotional opportunities, and helpful business resources. Being part of the Chamber has made our business feel more visible and supported.

  1. If you could describe PEI in just three words, what would they be?

Welcoming, beautiful, community-driven.

  1. What has been the most valuable Chamber resource or event you’ve taken part in since joining?

The most valuable event has been the networking mixers. They’ve given me a chance to build real relationships with other business owners, share ideas, and even collaborate on local promotions. Those connections have been incredibly helpful. Also, the Chamber Perks App has been great and has given us a lot more exposure.

  1. Where’s your favourite local spot to unwind or grab a bite after a busy workday?

My favourite spot is a quiet beach nearby; nothing beats sitting by the water after a long day. If I’m grabbing a bite, I like to support another local spot and enjoy something simple and comforting.

  1. Looking forward, what are you most excited about as a Chamber member for the coming year?

I’m excited about continuing to build relationships and learning new ways to grow our business. The Chamber is always introducing new programs and events, and I’m looking forward to taking advantage of more training opportunities and community initiatives.

  1. What products or services do you offer?

We offer freshly made, locally inspired dishes featuring PEI ingredients. Whether it’s dine-in meals, take-out options, or catering for small events, we focus on quality, comfort, and flavour.

  1. What makes your business unique?

Our business is unique because we combine small-town hospitality with food made from local producers we know personally. We aim to make every guest feel like family and to create dishes that highlight the best of PEI’s ingredients and traditions.

  1. Where’s your favourite hidden gem on PEI to explore, either for a peaceful getaway or a fun adventure?

There’s a quiet walking trail and beach area just outside town that I absolutely love. It’s peaceful, scenic, and rarely crowded, perfect for recharging after a busy week.

  1. What advice would you give to new Chamber members just starting out?

Get involved early. Attend events, introduce yourself, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. The Chamber is full of friendly people who want to see you succeed, and the more you participate, the more value you’ll get.

  1. How does your business look different now compared to when it started?

When we first opened, we were still finding our rhythm and figuring out what worked best for our customers. Over time, we’ve refined our menu, improved our operations, and built strong relationships within the community. We’re more confident, more connected, and more focused on what our customers love most.
