Provincial Credit Union marked International Credit Union Day on October 21st, with the launch of PEI’s newly merged credit union. Evangeline-Central, Malpeque Bay, Provincial and Tignish Credit Unions are now operating as one new financial institution under the name Provincial Credit Union. The combined entity has 10 locations across the province, 35,000 members, and over $1.2 billion in assets, making Provincial Credit Union the largest credit union in Atlantic Canada.
Members at all 4 credit unions approved the merger vote in April, and among other advantages, members can now conduct their banking business at any of the 10 offices on Prince Edward Island, from Montague to Tignish.
As Provincial Credit Union CEO Bernard Gillis points out, “The new Provincial Credit Union will be stronger and more competitive for members. We’ll be introducing more innovative products, and continuing our local focus in the communities we live and work in.”
Activities on Credit Union Day included celebratory cake, prizes, random acts of kindness, and the opportunity to make a donation to various food banks across the province.
