RPS Biologiques
For a tiny Island, we have a lot of big thinkers!
The Bioscience industry is a prime example. PEI has over 60 bioscience companies and research and development organizations. Across the Island, scientists are conducting groundbreaking research on human, animal, and fish health as well as nutritional products. One of those scientists is Chamber member, and founder and president of RPS Biologiques, Dr. Subrata Chowdhury.
Dr Chowdhury holds a PhD from Reading University in the UK and has worked in Molecular Biology at locations across the world. Some of his research includes treatments for diseases like malaria, Lyme disease and cancer. In 2008, Dr. Chowdhury and his wife, Ranjana, moved from New York City to PEI. They wanted to start a new life somewhere quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of a big city. Following their move, Dr. Chowdhury and Ranjana, who also worked in the bioscience, decided to go out on their own to see what they could do. Thus was the beginning of RPS Biologiques Inc.

When it comes to research and innovation, many things have to go right in order to bring a new product to market. “You have to have a lot of faith in your work,” says Dr. Chowdhury. “It takes a lot of research, a lot of time, and a lot of money for something that ultimately may not work.”
When products do work, it then takes even more time and money to get them approved by Health Canada and the FDA and get a license for marketing. It’s a long process so a supportive community backing you can make a big difference! Dr. Chowdhury says that PEI scientists are fortunate to receive government funding, as well as collaborative support from groups like PEI BioAlliance, ACOA, and UPEI. “It’s a neat community where you can ask for anything and always find someone willing to help. ”

Dr. Chowdhury is also grateful for the support of his family and all his advisors, investors and team members who have trust in his work and supported him over the years. It’s the people who take the leap of faith and say “let’s just try it and see what happens” that help get a product to market. When that happens, all the hard work, time, and money spent is well worth it!
Dr. Chowdhury says creating a new product that will help people, animals and the environment feels like.
“giving birth to a baby; it’s the greatest feeling in the world.”
