The Shed Coffee launched a new product with a mission: Koolbrew cold brew. Koolbrew is delicious, artisan coffee roasted and brewed on Prince Edward Island. Rooted in culture and women-inspired, Koolbrew is the highest quality single-origin specialty coffee.
Women have contributed their creativity, energy, and hard work to coffee production for as long as the coffee plant has been cultivated. Unfortunately, in the global coffee industry, women hold 70% of low-pay physical labour jobs, but only 20-30% of coffee farms are women operated, according to a report by the International Coffee Organization.
Koolbrew is looking to shift those numbers by celebrating the women in coffee.
Koolbrew is made from single-origin coffee beans that Hai sources carefully from women-led
farms. “When you sip a Koolbrew, you can taste the love and dedication of the woman farmer who cultivates her coffee beans to make every flavour brighter,” notes Hai. “And you can taste the vision of a woman roaster who works hard every day to erase the border between the coffee bean and coffee lover.”
Koolbrew will be available in The Shed Coffee locations in Charlottetown, Petes Frootique’s two Halifax locations, and could soon be on shelves at Sobeys. They’ll also be retailed at PEI’s two summer music festivals: CBMF and Sommo Festival.
Koolbrew was supported by the Food Xcel program hosted by Island Food Partnership and Innovation PEI. Nguyen worked closely with Bio Food Tech, Island Food Partnership and Bogside for pilot production.
Ethiopia Koolbrew is available now, with more single origins to follow soon. “We will launch more cold brews very soon, each one named after its single-origin coffee bean and with designs to celebrate the women in coffee from that region,” says Hai.
A brand new roastery, which is under construction, will boost Hai’s capacity to upscale the production of Koolbrew.

ABOUT THE SHED COFFEE:
In 2021, The Shed Coffee opened its first coffee shop location at 99 Pownal Street in Charlottetown. In 2022, they added a second location at the Charlottetown Library Learning Centre. In addition to serving daily customers at their two coffee shops, The Shed Coffee has spent the last couple of years developing an ambitious ecosystem of retail and wholesale coffee products.
Recently, The Shed Coffee expanded to a new coffee roastery to enable production upscaling of Koolbrew and drip bag coffee while also providing a facility to develop a fresh concentrate coffee product. The Shed Coffee was ranked one of the best coffee roasters in Canada by Reader’s Digest in 2022 and maintained the same distinction in 2023.
